Thomas Wadleigh, CMHC, LMHC, CSAT, EFT, EMDR
I am licensed in Utah as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC) and in Massachusetts as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I specialize in the treatment of pornography and sexual addiction for addicts and their spouses/partners. I have been assisting addicts with recovery in a variety of capacities since the early 1980’s, including treatment of alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders and sexual addiction. This experience includes working in a variety of settings including in-patient psychiatric hospital units, intensive day treatment for mental disorders and addiction, and community mental health agencies.
My specialization includes advanced training and certification as a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT) through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals ( IITAP ), which was created by Dr. Patrick Carnes who is a pioneer in the treatment of sexual addiction. I also am certified as an Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist (EFT) through the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy ( ICEEFT ). In addition, I am a certified EMDR therapist using EMDR to heal trauma that may be underlying addictive behaviors. These specialized skills have proven to be invaluable in assisting sexual addicts and pornography addicts and their spouses/partners.
My current private practice, Healing Vistas, is a telehealth online counseling practice located in Herriman, Utah. Prior to developing my online practice I had a private practice in Murray, Utah where I was also a member of LifeSTAR of Salt Lake which has been providing treatment for sexual addicts and their spouses/partners since the mid-1990’s. I use a combination of individual, group and couples therapy as well as psychoeducation to provide treatment for pornography and sexual addiction for the addict; as well as a separate, but similar approach for assisting the addict’s spouse or partner. The group therapy uses the healing support of the group guided by the therapist, and a proven workbook curriculum to help the clients learn about the nature of their afflictions and adopt tools and strategies to stop their harmful behaviors. The individual and couples therapy provide vehicles for the individual and couple to identify and resolve more in-depth emotional issues that may be fueling their problems. This often includes healing trauma and long-standing family of origin issues.
